Recipe by Brenton J. Helmkamp
Okay here is the secret family recipe. Not to be exploited for financial purposes! Do so at your own karmic risk.
Vegetables needed.
1 large can (28 ounces) or two small cans (14 ounces each) of diced(en cubos) or stewed(estofado—these are better) tomatoes.
1 green bell pepper (morron verde or pimiento verde?)
1/3 of a vidalia onion (sweet or yellow onion) don’t you call these cabezonas?
1 handful of cilantro
1 part Angelica(don’t forget this---very important)
Spices needed:
Its hard to measure this because I just know how much to put, but I remember you liked spoonfuls so..........
1 small spoonful of chili powder(polvo de chili)
1 small spoonful of cumin(comino), be careful with this because its strong
1 small spoonful of garlic salt(sal de ajo).
a couple splashes of whatever kind of hot sauce you have
a little sugar and a little lime juice if you have it can help.
First step:
1. cut the green pepper and onion into big pieces, maybe a little bigger than a quarter. Chop the cilantro really well
2. put chopped pepper, onion, and cilantro into blender
3. add canned tomatoes, spices, and angelica
4. stir with a spoon so tomatoes, spices, angelica, and vegetables mix
5. Now this is the hard part. "blend" everything together with the blender. you only have to hit the blender button a few times and only for about a second or two each time. You just want the big pieces to get cut and everything to get mixed. Be careful not to use the blender too much or it will be like a liquid and you will be able to drink it. You don’t want to drink the salsa you want to scoop it!
Remember its all about consistency! Consistencia, consistencia, consistencia!
